Teak Ly gives a damn

TeakI am very pleased to introduce another team member for our December adventure to Zithulele. I worked with Teak for about a year, and am excited about having him join us. I look forward to the enthusiasm, optimism and willingness to work hard, that Teak brings to the team. Teak sent through his travel itinerary the other day, and tells me that he is just about ready for the trip.

I asked him a few questions so we could all get to know him a little better.
What do you normally spend your time doing?
I like to spend my time catching up with friends, playing a few games of basketball, also a little bit of tennis and swimming. Other interests include traveling, cooking, eating and photography.

Where do you live?
I currently live in Fulham, London.

Where else have you lived?
Prior to London, I lived in Sydney, Australia.

Have you built a house before?
I have never built a house before, but I once helped my dad build a shed!

Have you visited South Africa before?
This will be my first visit.

What interested you about the project?
I was thinking of doing some volunteer work and was very keen on the idea of doing something that could benefit others. Also, it would be a great opportunity to work on a challenging project with a bunch of people from different parts of the globe.

What expectations do you have about the project?
I think it will be challenging, as I have no experience in building, yet I am sure it will be great fun as well!

What do you think you bring to the team?
I’m good at lifting heavy things and taking flattering photos of others.

What challenges do you think we might face?
Hard manual labour under the hot African sun.

Do you have any other plans for your visit to South Africa?
I don’t have any other plans. I will only be in South Africa for the 2 weeks.

What are you most excited about?
Seeing South Africa for the first time and doing something that I have never done before.

Anything else you want to say?
Really looking forward to meeting new people, working on the project and seeing it through to completion.

Well, Teak. Great to have you on board. Looking forward to picking you up at the airport.
